Barbarea
Barbarea is a restaurant and natural wine bar located in Kopli, at the Põhjala Factory. By evening, the restaurant transforms from the daytime operations of the Karjase bakery. When the bakery closes its doors at 3 PM for two hours, we open Barbarea in the same space at 5 PM.
The old rubber boot factory has come back to life as a cultural and community center. The restaurant is situated in a 100-year-old blacksmith's building, where we have tried to preserve as much of the authentic old structure as possible, both inside and out.
About the name Barbarea: barbarea is a beautiful weed. It's the same yellow flower that blooms in Kopli and elsewhere, adding color to the surroundings with the sunshine.
Recycling and Sustainability
The entire space is filled with items and furniture that have been largely recycled and rejuvenated. Most of the furniture came to us in very worn-out condition, to which we have given new life with the help of Egle Kõrvas. We don't follow a single style or vision; the entire space has been created piece by piece, based on intuition.
World Cuisine
The menu is inspired by various corners of the world, and all dishes are meant to be shared among the table, sparking conversation and emotions among friends. A significant part of the menu consists of sourdough pizzas, made from organic Estonian and Italian flours, and baked in a Gianni Acunto wood-fired oven at 500 degrees.
More Than Just a Dining Spot
Barbarea is a meeting place. A spot where friends share food, drinks, and emotions.
Our entire menu is designed for sharing. We believe that the direct conversation that arises from sharing food is one of the best parts of dining out. The menu is very eclectic, drawing inspiration from different parts of the world, always using as much organic produce from small Estonian farms as possible.
Barbarea opened on a hot summer day, June 17, 2021.
The restaurant is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 5 PM to 11 PM. The kitchen closes at 10 PM.
