Maarjamäe Resto
Maarjamäe Resto – A Cozy Restaurant in Maarjamäe
Maarjamäe Resto is located in Maarjamäe Castle, offering delightful culinary experiences to museum visitors, dinner guests, and brunch enthusiasts alike.
Seasonal and Local Ingredients
The restaurant is run by a family dedicated to crafting a heartfelt seasonal menu. Thanks to their large family, much of the ingredients come directly from their home farm and nearby forests. The à la carte menu prioritizes ingredients from Saaremaa to Lake Peipus.
Depending on the season, the menu features a range of flavors, from smørrebrød and buckwheat blinis with fish roe to hearty main courses like duck breast with pumpkin purée, baked apple, and red wine-orange sauce. Emphasis on local ingredients ensures dishes like Peipus zander, Muhu lamb, and Saaremaa venison make their way onto the menu, depending on the time of year.
Flavors are harmoniously combined on the plate, utilizing exciting and diverse ingredients. Whether it’s cream-truffle sauce with Muhu lamb, buckwheat popcorn accompanying eggplant rolls, or glazed eel on smørrebrød, the dishes promise culinary delights and discoveries worth multiple visits.
And of course, a proper meal needs a refreshing drink. The restaurant has curated a diverse wine and cocktail menu to complement the food.

Maarjamäe Castle
The area we now know as Maarjamäe was for centuries one of Tallinn's main summer destinations. Over the years, the castle has served as a sugar factory, starch and spirit factory, and even as home to the luxurious Riviera Palais Restaurant, which, in the 1930s, was a popular spot for grand receptions and parties.
Today, in addition to the restaurant, Maarjamäe Castle houses the Estonian History Museum and its permanent exhibition, "My Free Country." This exhibition takes visitors on a journey through 100 years, from the birth of the Republic of Estonia to the present day.
Maarjamäe Resto is located in the Estonian History Museum. Enter through the museum's main door, and the restaurant is immediately to the right. The restaurant is also open to four-legged friends.
