Schloss is a true gem in Viljandi. Here, you can enjoy the chef’s tasting menu – a five-course culinary journey created by head chef Toomas Lääts.
The restaurant also offers an à la carte menu. The menu is short and carefully curated – every flavor and combination is thoughtfully designed. From appetizers such as whitefish and trout roe or gorgonzola fiocchetti with Tuscan black truffle to creative main courses. Dishes like gilthead sea bream fillet with potato croquette, lemon-butter sauce, and marinated kohlrabi or grilled lamb saddle with eggplant cream, Asian vegetables, and jalapeño sauce are just a few examples of the mouthwatering options available. Depending on the season, dishes and flavor combinations may change.
Vegetarians will also find several suitable options on the menu. Additionally, gluten-free and lactose-free dishes hold an important place in the selection.
Book Café Novell
Like the restaurant, Café Novell’s menu is based on fresh ingredients and contemporary food trends. Although it is a café, the menu is fully restaurant-worthy. You will find exquisite flavors ranging from burrata ravioli and grass-fed beef tartare to lamb cutlet and beef entrecôte.
The Restaurant in a Historic Manor
The history of the Viljandi manor, Schloss Fellin, dates back to 1624 when Swedish King Gustav II Adolf granted Viljandi and its surroundings to Jacob de la Gardie. The manor changed hands multiple times until 1919, when the Republic of Estonia nationalized it. The manor’s lands were incorporated into the city of Viljandi, and the manor house was taken into state use.
In 2018, Viktor Siilats purchased the main building of Viljandi Manor and, in collaboration with heritage conservation experts, restored it. In 2021, the newly renovated manor, restored to its former glory, was opened as the boutique hotel Schloss Fellin. This 17-room luxury hotel also offers spa, event, and conference services. It is also home to the Book Café Novell and the gourmet restaurant Schloss.
The restaurant is located on the first floor of the manor house. The café, situated on the lower level, has a separate entrance on the pond-facing side of the building or can be accessed via the northern spiral staircase inside the house.
