Bon Lío
Bon Lio serves Nordic Mediterranean cuisine, where inspiration comes from modern Spanish cuisine and finer gastropubs. The restaurant quickly became popular after opening in 2014.
Spanish and Nordic combination in the kitchen
Behind the successful restaurant is chef Cato Wara, who was born in northern Norway but grew up in Mallorca. Wara’s upbringing is why the menu is inspired by both Nordic and Spanish cuisine and their culinary traditions.
Here, local ingredients are praised and served with a Mediterranean twist. At Bon Lio, the atmosphere and service are just as important as the food and drinks.
An unexpected culinary journey
At Bon Lio, there is no menu to cling to. Here you just put on the blindfold, sit back and prepare for the restaurant's culinary surprises. You can expect familiar Norwegian flavours, but with a southern twist. Perhaps you will get to try their pan-fried redfish with crispy chicken skin and hints of mild and balanced Peruvian chilli.
When booking a table, they offer a 5-course tasting menu, which takes about two hours to finish - with the option to stay longer per request. The price is NOK 820 – drinks are excluded.
You can also drop by the restaurant for just a snack or drink. However, Bon Lio is often fully booked, so it is recommended to book a table to ensure you get to experience the restaurant.
A new and larger restaurant
In 2019, Bon Lio moved from a sloping wooden house in Fredensborgsveien to a larger industrial room in Sofienberggata with a view of Sofienbergparken. The new Bon Lio has more seating and a larger bar area, while the restaurant retains its charm from Fredensborg.
Although the restaurant’s charm remains, many aspects of the restaurant are now different! They have high ceilings, lots of space, and the windows are huge – from floor to ceiling! The charm and warmth from the staff are still there, and they will always welcome you with a 'Hola, Como Estas!' or a hug.
