Phoenix Gastropub is a restaurant that rises from the ashes in an iconic location, right at Trondheim Torv. Its name honors the adjacent "Hotel Phoenix," which occupied the neighboring building in the early 1900s. The mythical Phoenix, symbolizing rebirth and renewal, serves as inspiration for the gastropub's identity.

Phoenix Gastropub elevates the traditional gastropub experience by blending a casual atmosphere with culinary excellence. Its concept focuses on comfort food made with top-quality ingredients, offering a menu that balances classic and contemporary flavors. Phoenix appeals to a broad audience, from food enthusiasts to those seeking a relaxed dinner with friends.

A Historic Setting

The building that now houses Phoenix Gastropub at Munkegata 26 has a rich history. Originally built in 1914 as Hotel Augustin, designed by architect Herman Major Backer, it was renamed Phoenix Hotel in 1916, with a bronze statue of the Phoenix bird placed at its main entrance.

Over the years, the historic building has served various purposes, including as a hotel, restaurant, and office space, before becoming the home of Phoenix Gastropub.

Tradition with a Twist

The menu at Phoenix is carefully crafted to offer a mix of familiar favorites and creative surprises. Guests can enjoy classic dishes like Fish 'n' Chips, featuring breaded pollock served with horseradish, dill fries, and rich remoulade, or Bangers 'n' Mash, a hearty dish of coarse pork sausages with silky mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, and a rich mustard sauce.

For those craving an exotic touch, the Shakshouka Cassoulet is a standout, combining tomato-based white beans, bell peppers, and chipotle, topped with a perfectly poached egg—or served vegan for plant-based diners. Seasonal and local ingredients are central to the dishes, ensuring both flavor and sustainability.

For dessert, Phoenix offers playful indulgences like the Strawberry "Baked Alaska" with strawberry ice cream and fluffy meringue, and its own Snickers ice cream served with caramel sauce, caramelized popcorn, and crunchy chocolate. Kids are also welcome, with smaller portions of main menu items tailored for them.

Local Brews and Carefully Curated Drinks

The drink selection at Phoenix is designed to complement the menu, offering something for everyone. Local breweries like Monkey Brew, Røros Bryggeri, and Hogna Brygg bring unique flavors to the table. Monkey Brew Einstein Pils impresses with its fresh and hoppy character, while Røros Bryggeri IPA delivers balanced fruit tones and bold bitterness. For fans of darker beer, Hogna Rødskjegg Red Ale, with its rich malt notes and caramel flavors, is an excellent choice.

Bottled beers include BrewDog’s Punk IPA, known for its tropical fruit notes and intense hops. Alcohol-free options like Brooklyn Special Effects and Weihenstephaner Weissbier ensure great taste for all. Phoenix also offers a curated cocktail menu with innovative combinations that challenge the palate.

For wine lovers, the extensive wine list features ideal pairings for meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes. Alcohol-free pairings are also available, ensuring that every guest feels included.
