Tango Sopranos brings to the stage two powerful female vocalists, offering deep shades of emotion and the glamour of bygone days through Finland’s most beloved tangos.
The evening’s program features passionate Argentinian tangos, wistful Finnish tangos, and international classics, all reimagined in the captivating style of tango. Starring soprano Angelika Klas and mezzo-soprano Essi Luttinen, the night promises passion, drama, longing, and pure entertainment.
Both Klas and Luttinen are celebrated for their versatility and fearless exploration of different musical genres. Sharing the stage with them is pianist Petri Haapasalo, renowned for his intense interpretations and responsible for the evening’s arrangements.
Soprano Angelika Klas has built an impressive career on opera and operetta stages as well as in lighter music, enchanting Finnish audiences for over a decade with her masterful tango interpretations. She is also remembered for her starring role in the Turku City Theatre production Tamara. Mezzo-soprano Essi Luttinen, winner of the 2005 Merikanto Singing Competition and recipient of the Karita Mattila Prize the same year, is likewise one of today’s most versatile female artists. The wider public will recall her appearances in Finland’s UMK – New Music Competition in 2015 and the third season of MTV’s Tähdet, tähdet (“Stars, Stars”).
