Aurora Estate
Aurora Estate is a dream come true - a boutique hotel and an accompanying restaurant. Nestled by Lake Ylläsjärvi, embraced by the mountains, a complex has been created that was named the best new boutique hotel in Europe in 2018. The fine dining restaurant operates at least at an international level, and they stick to their slogan: any customer who finds their way here will truly be pampered.
DISCOVERY IN THE EMBRACE OF THE MOUNTAINS
The location of Aurora Estate is truly unparalleled and breathtaking. In the village of Ylläsjärvi, beneath the open sky, mountain and lake landscapes merge. Amidst this fairytale scenery stands a beautiful red house: a hotel and restaurant that garners great interest even abroad. The lakeside location is peaceful, with no sound from bustling centers audible. There's nothing around, yet everything: the feeling is indescribable, Aurora Estate must be experienced firsthand.
The small hotel features seven unique rooms, each individually decorated. On the premises, you'll also find a 100-year-old sauna cottage, a smoke sauna, a jacuzzi, and a 46-seat fine dining restaurant, created in collaboration with Pentik. The space is both cozy and magnificent, and it's no wonder that visitors want to return here again and again.
Sirly Ylläsjärvi, the driving force behind this northern experience, clearly has a lot to offer and is always working on something new. Both she and her partner are avid fly fishermen and nature enthusiasts. In the kitchen of Aurora Estate, dishes are often prepared from herbs and mushrooms gathered by themselves. Overall, these immensely talented and strong women showcase northern lifestyle admirably. You can surely taste their passion for their craft and the friendship between entrepreneurs in the restaurant!
NORTHERN ARTWORKS ON THE PLATE
The food at Aurora Estate is locally sourced, with ingredients chosen from ethical perspectives. The pure flavors of nature are paramount on the plate. The same ideology extends to the wines. Northern delicacies are presented on the menu in a modern way: wild herbs, game meat, and fresh fish. For example, the pikes on the menu are primarily caught from Lake Ylläsjärvi.
The menu is short but delicious. Everything is handmade from the best seasonal ingredients, and there are two lovingly curated options: a longer five-course experience and a slightly shorter one covering appetizer, main course, and dessert. Inspiration for the dishes also comes from childhood flavors. Sirly's favorite childhood treat was her grandmother's barley porridge. This memory, made from Puikula barley and reindeer fat, has been served to customers as a side dish to reindeer, and the feedback has been overwhelming. In addition to these delicate and charming flavors, the food in the restaurant is stunningly beautiful - the dishes are like artworks on the plate. Customers are welcomed to enjoy them as warmly as if they were visiting their own home."
