The Golden Chimp

The Golden Chimp is a modern restaurant at the intersection of Greenland and Tøyen, more specifically on the corner of Heimdalsgata and Tøyengata. Since opening in 2017, TGC has consolidated its position as one of the best dumpling restaurants in Oslo.

 

Two-part restaurant

TGC is divided into two sections: the warm lower floor with a set menu and the asiakitch inspired ground floor where you can choose freely from their á la carte menu.

When you enter on the ground floor, the place emits of a Japanese izakaya, an Asian bar. Here you can sit down, relax and order different dishes from the bar menu, or have a quick beer while you wait for your friends to arrive.

Around the corner from the bar, you can glimpse a golden staircase that will lead you down to the restaurant in the basement. In the basement, the waiters have a lot of knowledge and will gladly share it while you eat and drink. The set menu consists of seven dishes, and you can expect to try the restaurant’s specialty: dumplings, as well as many other exciting Asian dishes.

 

Further-developing and traditional dishes

The overall concept is relaxed and sinful, while the menu retains the pure Asian flavours. They play with Asian food traditions and are always working on further developing their famous dumplings favourites while simultaneously finding new classics such as King Crab dumplings, Xian long bo and Chair sui dumplings.

The Golden Chimp is a place where you can experience Japanese and Chinese culture through food, drink, music, and atmosphere.

Playful Asian interior

The interior draws on references from restaurants all over the world where it plays with clichés such as creeping tigers, hidden dragons – aesthetics, waterfalls, artificial and real plants everywhere. It is an Asian oasis on Heimdalsgata 37 on Tøyen.

Down to earth

Here there are no white tablecloths on the tables. Golden Chimp is a restaurant that does not take itself too seriously. At the bar on the ground floor, you can sit down for a glass and a snack. The restaurant itself is in the basement, and here there is a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The waiters have great knowledge of everything, and they will happily serve you while you eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.
