Kong Hans Kælder

Kong Hans Kælder is the oldest gourmet restaurant in Denmark and is located in Copenhagen's old cellar in Vingårdstræde. It has served as a restaurant since 1976. Since its opening, the place has been a significant player in the Danish gastronomic scene and today Kong Hans Kælder is famous for its luxury and world class fine dining.


Denmark's first Michelin star

The dream was to create a ‘Temple of Food’ of international standing and it must be said to have succeeded: In 1983 Kong Hans Kælder received Denmark's first Michelin star - A star that has been nurtured in the following 30 years. The restaurant had to do without the star for two years, but already in 2016 it regained it with Chef Mark Lundsgaard behind the stove in the basement.

Mark Lundgaard has previously worked in restaurants as Fakkelgaarden, Ruths Hotel, Restaurant Sletten, Lebzelter Obauer in Austria, Alinea in Chicago and Falsted Kro.

On the menu you'll find classic dishes that are prepared with the best ingredients. For example, you can look forward to pamper the palate with classic luxury items such as lobster, caviar, sweetbreads and foie gras. The kitchen is French, heavily seasoned with Scandinavian simplicity and rethought luxury.

Great taste and being a great host are the secrets behind a sublime dining experience at Kong Hans Kælder. Expect attentive waiters with their heads full of knowledge about wine and food and an outstanding atmosphere in one of Copenhagen's oldest buildings.

In the character-filled basement with decorated cross vaults and long oak plank flooring the tables are adorned with white tablecloths, silver cutlery and crystal glasses. The style is classic with an edge just like the restaurant's gastronomic profile.
