Haraszthy Vineyards produces wine by combining traditional Hungarian winemaking with modern technology. The beautiful Vineyards are on the slopes of Öregyhegy, Etyek. Although the wines are in focus, the Vineyards are about so much more: relaxation, diverse programs, delicious food, and unforgettable memories.


About Haraszthy Vineyards

The beautiful Haraszthy Vineyards were founded in 1996, and the wine processing plant was completed in 2003. They produce wine at 143 hectares, which they are continuously cultivating and developing.

Their goal is to produce high-quality wines and showcase Burgundy varieties locally. Their main grape varieties are the Irsai Olivér, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and the Pinot Noir. They also have Pinot Gris, Királyleányka and Zenit for cuvées.

Winemaker Dániel Pázmányi uses only the perfectly ripened grapes. Pázmányi has a specific selection process to ensure that only the finest, healthiest berries make it through to the next part of the process.

The history of Ágoston Haraszthy

The winery is named after acclaimed adventurer, traveller, and pioneer winemaker in Wisconsin Ágoston Haraszthy (1812-1869). Haraszthy was known as the “Father of California Wine” and was the first Hungarian to settle permanently in the United States. He is remembered in Wisconsin as the founder of the oldest incorporated village in the state, Széptáj, later renamed Sauk City.

In 1857, he visited Sonoma Valley and cultivated 226 hectares of wine, which became Buena Vista Winery, still known today as one of the most prestigious vineyards in the area. In 1861 after a trip from Europe, he returned to California with 300 varieties of European grapes, therefore, gaining the nickname of being the father of California wine.

He spent his last years in Nicaragua producing rum. He died by falling off a riverside, which resulted in him being eaten by alligators.

The restaurant Matador by Haraszthy Vineyards is a must-visit. The restaurant has a great selection of dishes, all internationally inspired. Under the supervision of award-winning American Mexican chef Diego Bautista, the team creates incredible dishes, using the finest ingredients available.

Their tasty, high-quality dishes match perfectly with the Vineyard's high-quality wines from both the Etyek region but also from their sister-vineyards in Argentina and California.
