Domestic is a gourmet restaurant located on Mejlgade in the heart of Aarhus. The restaurant received its first Michelin star in 2017. The menu was inspired by Nordic cuisine, which consists of simple dishes made with ingredients from local suppliers.

Domestic’s philosophy is local, sustainable, homely. The menu is dictated by the changing cycle of the seasons as they use the freshest and seasonally available produce wishing to create the best ‘farm to table’ experience, which is why the kitchen uses 100% locally sourced produce. The menu represents all the best of locally sourced produce to which they can spoil their guests. The focus on the environment as a philosophy demands a need for a sustainable menu, which is something Domestic excels in and by using local collaboration and respecting nature, Domestic can properly cherish the environment.

Relaxed Surroundings

The last aspect of Domestic’s philosophy is homely. They wish to create “a high-level gastronomic experience that’s served in a low-key and homely environment,” that inspires them to create a space for everyone. Ditte Susgaard the restaurant manager has said this of Domestic: "It is fine dining in a relaxed setting. It is important for us that the restaurant is a cozy and relaxed place where everyone feels welcome. Regarding the food, we all agree that we would like to emphasize sustainability and animal welfare highly and focus on local suppliers”.
