56°
In one of the old houses in idyllic settings at Holmen is a lovely restaurant called 56 °. Feel the historic country atmosphere in the middle of the big city when you come to dine here.
Historical spot
The eatery is more precisely situated in the idyllic surroundings of Charlotte Amalie's Bastion, built back in 1744. Here the military stored their gunpowder till the 1970s. Kirstine and Kenneth Ellegaard fell in love with these surroundings at their wedding back in 2007 and are now the proud and successful owners of this restaurant.
The romantic decor is authentic and stays true to its surroundings and historic setting. The rustic elements of the village house create a welcoming, warm and charming atmosphere. In the warmer seasons, it is lovely sitting outside in their garden, where they grow vegetables, cabbage and herbs. Grab a bite to eat here while surrounded by Danish idyll.
Unique dining experiences
At 56°, you can look forward to a unique culinary experience because the focus here is on the good ingredients and establishing a closeness between the kitchen and the guest. The chefs are skilled and dedicated and take pride in using only the very best ingredients in their cooking, which means that the menu follows the seasons – and changes day-to-day. You can be sure of high quality as the traditional Nordic cuisine meets modern culinary art.
If you want to try new taste experiences, try the laid-back 'Taste the Sundays' every Sunday. Here the kitchen has the freedom to experiment with all kinds of ingredients and flavours. It is a unique experience that will definitely open your culinary horizons.
Jazz on Fridays and Sundays
If you love listening to live music, you can experience crisp, blue tones every Friday night and Sunday at lunchtime. The instruments are played by professional musicians who will show you the potential of jazz to its fullest.
It is something worth experiencing and also an extremely popular event. The restaurant, therefore, recommends that you book a spot well in advance.
