Are you craving some Danish smørrebrød? Then you have come to the right place at Rømersgade 20 right by Nørreport station. Here, the restaurant Selma resides, and when dining here, you get to enjoy Denmark’s most innovative smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches).

Innovative smørrebrød

At Selma, the smørrebrød dishes are creative and unique. The basic elements are still there, yet it is not how you know it to be. The smørrebrød dishes have a twist to them as the kitchen focuses on creating a unique experience for all your senses.

The manager and head chef is Magnus Petterson, and his Swedish background is probably the reason why the smørrebrød made at Selma’s, is not the classic smørrebrød you are used to, and it is a wonderful new take on the delicious Danish dish. They have high expectations for their produce, and even the famous potato dish is transformed into an aesthetic masterpiece with flower decorations.

The one and only Ole Troelsø has stated that the smørrebrød at Selma’s is the absolute best smørrebrød in Denmark – which makes sense as Selma is not only in the White Guide 2019 but also featured in the Michelin Guide.

Beautiful interior full of colour

Selma was first located in Vesterbro’s food market, West Market. In 2018, Selma then relocated to its current space on Rømersgade 20 in the inner-city of Copenhagen.

The dining room is cozy, inviting, and has beautiful tapestry, with a symphony of colours as well as singing birds, blossoming trees and forest lakes. To contrast the wall, they have gorgeously painted chairs at every table.

Schnapps, wine and beer from Mikkeller

The drinks menu has a variety of schnapps and beer, which is a must to drink when eating smørrebrød. Say a ‘cheers’ at the table with Selma’s homemade schnapps or one of their other interesting varieties. They also have a great selection of tasty beers and ciders, and many of the beers on their menu, are produced by the world-renowned brewery Mikkeller.

If you are not into beer or schnapps, try digging into their selection of wine or soft drinks such as soda, juice, tea and coffee.
